2013 – Round #5

After a 2 week break, it was good to be back in action at the races again. We were at Gopher Dunes in Tillsonburg, Ontario and it was a hot and humid day with a very demanding track!

For the eastern rounds, Mitch Goheen from Just Giver Productions has offered to do a Redemption Racing video recap of the weekend featuring action and interviews from the races. Here is his video link for this weekend: https://vimeo.com/70344541 Thanks Mitch!! Great Job!

At the morning devotion I talked about decision making in life.

Travis Pastrana in Vital MX was asked to write a letter to himself as if it was 10 years ago.

It was interesting to hear the things he said; “If you ride today, it will be the last day you will ever wake up with a realistic chance of fulfilling your childhood dream of becoming a Supercross champion. You will never be able to jog, jump on a trampoline or do anything that impacts your right leg without swelling and pain”. Or “The hurt and depression you experience over the next two years will show you who your real friends are. These friends will pick you up and lead you to something greater than you ever dreamed possible”

Many of us can look back on our lives and pinpoint decisions we have made for the better or for worse. “If I wouldn’t have done that” or “If I just would of done this…” Life has Struggles, trials and choices. God is our strength when we are weak.

Jesus says to the apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9;

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

Paul’s response is;

“So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”

It’s difficult to make some tough decisions in life but we don’t need to burden ourselves with these types of concerns because God’s power is made real to us in our times of weakness. It’s odd to think that in our weakness we could ever be ‘strong’, but that is exactly how Christ’s mighty power is made real.

Proverbs 3 5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 16:9“The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.”

From Gavin…

Hello Everyone,

Well after a much needed break, I have gotten out of the routine of getting my race report in on time. I sincerely apologize for the hold up.

Round 5 at Gopher Dunes last weekend was a big test physically as well as mentally. With it being the hottest and roughest event thus far in the series it’s a pivotal point in the season.

Moto 1, began great for me with a top 5 start. I would remain top 5 until lap 4 where I made many mistakes and struggled the entire moto. I would keep slipping back through the pack to finish moto 1 with a 10th.  P.S. As you can tell not much exciting happened on my end of things in moto 1.

Moto 2, got exciting real quick. After avoiding a first turn crash, I was collected in a pile up in turn 3. After getting hit very hard from a rider behind me and a minute to regroup, I was one of the last guys to get going. Thankfully between Moto’s my mechanic Chad and I made some changes and adjustments to the bike that helped me minimize my mistakes in moto 2. Charging through the pack the best I could, I could only reach 10th position by the moto’s end. With some inconsistencies of other riders, my 10-10 held up for an 8th overall.

I want to give my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ all the glory and praise for the safety and talent to be able to race for His glory.

I also would like to thank my family and friends as well as all the supporters, who are praying and supporting all of us at Redemption Racing.

Looking forward to seeing you all at a race soon =)

From Eric….

This weekend at Gopher didn’t go as well as I had planned. I had strep throat the entire weekend so I wasn’t feeling very well. In the first moto, I got a great start and was up in the top 10 coming across the finish line. I dropped back a few spots at the beginning of the race and was running 16th for the entire moto battling with a guy which is where I finished. My second moto start was a different story as I got into a first turn pile up, I got going again and was right behind Gavin and as we both were headed into the second corner some guys went down again and both me and Gavin got caught in the wreck. So needless to say, it was not a good start to the moto. I got untangled from that mess and started putting in some good fast laps which helped me catch up to a points position of 19th. I ended up 19th overall on the day. I am grateful to God for keeping me safe as I wasn’t feeling the greatest and Gopher can take a toll on a lot of riders.

This weekend Michael Thacker was unable to qualify.

For the eastern women’s nationals we have lady rider Robin Hutchinson representing Redemption Racing. Below are her thoughts on her very first women’s national at Gopher…

Hi, my name is Robin Hutchinson, I am 16 years old and I am riding for Redemption racing. This year is my first attempt at the women’s pro nationals! Early on in the season, I went down hard at Motopark and ended up with a broken hand. It healed; however seems to continue to give me a hard time. Gopher Dunes was the first round I raced, and wow was I ever nervous! In my first moto, the bike wasn’t in gear when the gate dropped… I couldn’t believe I forgot to check, too many nerves!! Second moto went a lot better though, I still didn’t get the start I wanted, but I did put in some good laps! Within the good laps, I cross rutted and went down, but thankfully everything was fine! I am so pumped to have raced my first national, and I’m hoping for better results at Sand Del Lee! See you this weekend!

Once again we are all so blessed and thankful that God has given us a safe weekend at Gopher Dunes and we look forward to another great weekend at Sand del lee, near Ottawa, Ontario.
